Pillows are one of the indispensable items to support good sleep. Sometimes it's not just one pillow that we need, there are bolster pillows, and other cute pillows, which can make sleep more comfortable.
Then, how old is the pillow you are currently using? One year, two years, five years or maybe it has been used for years? When was the last time you changed your pillow? Many people think not to change their pillow before the existing pillow is damaged. But, has it ever occurred to you that sleeping pillows have an expiration date?
In fact, sleeping pillows have an expiration date and need to be replaced regularly. If you often experience nasal congestion and sneezing in the morning when you just woke up, and then disappear during the day, you should suspect your sleeping pillow as the trigger. One of the signs of an expired pillow can be seen from its physical shape, such as deflating, feeling hard and not soft, or even not giving a spring effect at all.
Even though it looks clean, pillows that are more than 2 years old experience weight shrinkage, even 10-15% of the contents can consist of mites, dust, bed bugs, dead skin cells from hair, sweat, and traces of makeup that we use while sleeping. If continuously worn, common symptoms that often arise are itching in the nose when waking up, skin irritation, sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, sore throat, to aggravate asthma for those who have a history of the disease.
To inhibit the growth of mites to bed bugs, change the sheets and pillowcases regularly, at least once a week. If the allergy is severe enough, also vacuum the pillows and sheets, dry the pillows regularly, and consider using an exterminator service to solve the pest problem at home so that your home and resting place become healthier.
So, when should you replace your pillow? Replace it after a maximum of two years. A good pillow should fill the space between your head and shoulders while you sleep. The perfect pillow is one that keeps the user's head level while sleeping.
