Mosquitoes can detect their victims and lock onto targets from a considerable distance, around 50 meters thanks to the carbon dioxide trails left behind. Mosquitoes also tend to approach warm body sources. Hence, pregnant women or fatter bodies are more likely to be bitten by mosquitoes. Body scent also attracts mosquitoes, especially the feet that release bacteria after exercise.

But, did you know that mosquitoes also choose dark colors as one of their targets?

One of the researchers in the field of medical entomology from the University of Florida, Professor Jonathan Day, said that 20 percent of dark-clothed people are favored targets by mosquitoes. In line with this research, another source from Live Science stated that mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors because they can absorb heat.

Mosquitoes that have heat-sensitive sensors will approach dark colors that store heat.

Dark colors such as Black, Dark Blue as well as Red and Orange colors are more attractive to mosquitoes because they are considered to blend in more with their surroundings, which is why mosquitoes prefer to approach places or visual spots with dark colors.

A study from the University of Washington sheds new light on how mosquitoes react to certain colors. White, Cream, Yellow and Bright Blue colors reflect heat and light effectively, making mosquitoes uninterested. Although mosquitoes are often in green areas, it turns out that bright green is less attractive to mosquitoes because it is considered a landing site. Light Purple is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it can also help repel mosquitoes.

If indoors or at home, Mosquito Repellent Services can be used so that the population in the neighborhood does not increase. There is also a natural solution to repel mosquitoes by choosing a wall paint color that is not preferred by mosquitoes. But this does not guarantee that mosquitoes will not exist from your home.
