Ants

Formicidae

Ants enter homes seeking food and water, contaminate food, and some species bite. Their colonies are large and hard to eliminate without targeting the nest.

Common ants in Indonesia

  • Household / Black Ant

Small ants drawn to sweet food, commonly trailing across kitchens, counters, and bins.

  • Fire Ant (Solenopsis)

Delivers a painful sting that can trigger allergic reactions; nests in soil, pots, and yards.

Signs of Ants

  • Trails of ants heading to food.
  • Fine soil mounds in floor gaps or the garden.
  • Winged ants appearing in mating season.

Why Ants are dangerous

Ants contaminate food with bacteria carried from dirty places. Some species like fire ants deliver painful bites that can trigger allergic reactions in some people.

Ants behaviour & life cycle

Ants live in colonies with one or more queens, and the trail you see is only foraging workers. Killing visible ants does not solve the problem because the queen and nest remain intact. Some species even relocate and split the nest (budding) when disturbed, so spraying can actually spread the colony.

How to prevent Ants

  • Clean crumbs and sugary spills immediately.
  • Store food tightly and cover bins.
  • Seal entry gaps in walls and windows.

Frequently asked questions

Why do ants keep coming back?

Because the main nest has not been eliminated. Gel baiting carries the active ingredient to the nest so the colony and its queen are handled.

Why does spraying ants seem to make more appear?

Some ant species respond to disturbance by splitting the colony into several new nests (budding). That is why queen-targeting baiting works far better than contact sprays.

Are ants a food-safety hazard?

Yes. Ants carry bacteria from dirty areas onto food and kitchen surfaces, making them a real hygiene concern for homes and F&B businesses alike.
