Fumigation

What Is Fumigation? Meaning, Process, and Benefits

Fumigation is a pest control method using fumigant gas in an enclosed space. Learn how it works and when fumigation is needed.

By the ETOS Technical Team

What fumigation is and how it works

Fumigation uses fumigant gas that penetrates every gap of a commodity and enclosed space to eliminate pests at all life stages — egg, larva, and adult. The area is sealed, gas is applied at a measured dose and exposure time, then aerated until safe.

When fumigation is needed

Fumigation suits storage warehouses, export-import containers, factories, and commodities like grains affected by stored-product pests. Many countries require a fumigation certificate for export commodities.

Frequently asked questions

Is fumigation safe?

It is safe when performed by certified technicians with correct sealing, dosing, and aeration procedures. The area is only reused once declared safe.
