# How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes at Home and Prevent Dengue

The dengue-carrying Aedes aegypti mosquito breeds in clean standing water. Learn how to suppress mosquito populations at home and when fogging is needed.

## Remove breeding sites

Mosquitoes lay eggs in standing water. Drain tubs, empty pot and gutter water, cover water containers, and remove junk that holds rainwater. Breaking the breeding cycle is far more effective than only killing adult mosquitoes.

## When fogging is needed

Fogging rapidly knocks down adult mosquito populations and is appropriate during dengue outbreaks or high mosquito activity. Fogging works best combined with source reduction (eliminating breeding sites).

## Frequently asked questions

Is fogging alone enough?

No. Fogging kills adults but not eggs and larvae. Combine it with removing standing water so results last.
