Have you ever had a caterpillar that makes your skin itch? If so, it's a type of poisonous caterpillar.

Poisonous caterpillars have at least one or more venom glands, an excretion mechanism and a means of injecting venom. There are passive and active poisonous caterpillars, Passive poisonous caterpillars means it has venom glands and ducts. However, they do not have the means to inject venom (poison glands). While the active poisonous group, in addition to having poison glands, is also equipped with tools to inject poison into the body of opponents / other animals such as Limacodidae caterpillars. there are several types of feathers or thorns on poisonous caterpillars, namely:

**1. Normal feathers**

Usually the hairs on Noctuidae and Arctiidae caterpillars are fine and break off easily. So it will easily enter the human skin when there is direct contact.

**2. Special structure at the tip of the feather**

The bristles on Lasiocampidae caterpillars are usually attached to the body of the larvae. The bristles are rather thick, differing in length and a blunt, thickened base. The sharp tip shows a saw blade-like structure. When this poisonous caterpillar comes into contact with human skin, it will cause skin irritation.

**3. Poisonous caterpillar**

The poisonous caterpillar type of the Limacodidae group has spines. The spines are long and wide and are very sharp and pointed. These poisonous spines work like needles. This type of caterpillar will inject its venomous spines into organisms that touch it or disturb it by direct contact.

Usually the heatstroke will disappear within 3-4 hours. One way to deal with it is by compressing with ice water.
